Ol' Alfred Hitchcock
"Original Hitch" or as I like to call him "The Master of Suspense"
What can I say. If you are going to talk about film, you have to speak on "Hitch". This mans' career has spanned from the 20's to the late 70's. This man has done it all. Radio, Movies and TV. He has produced, written, acted, and even worked behind the scenes with title designing , editing, and even assistant directing. If it dealt with film or TV he had a hand in it. He had a long illustrious career, working with rising stars with names you would certainly recognize.
Born August 13, 1899 (Leytonston, London, UK) Alfred Joseph Hitchcock. In 1920, he got his first job as a title designer and worked for two years before he took over directing for "Always Tell Your Wife" (1923) when the director fell ill. Then he got his own project in 1923 "Number 13". Then with a career spanning to 1979, he finally retired. The last movie he had done was "Family Plot". Shortly after that he was knighted. On a sad note he died in his sleep of kidney failure on April 29, 1980. The film community owes this man a debt of gratitude for his work.
Some highlights include:
In 1967 won Irving Thalber Memorial Award at the Oscars, he just said "Thank You".
His favorite film of all time, "Mude Tod, Der", by Fritz Lang.
Favorite guilty films, "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977) & "Benji" (1974).
He was also voted by Entertainment Weekly, The Greatest Director of All Time.
His favorite film he directed, "Shadow of Doubt" (1943).
He was quoted as saying, "If I made Cinderella (1937), the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach."
